Parent Education & Family Engagement Workshops

Be deliberate in building strong parent-school engagement to promote student success in school and throughout life.

Parent education programs focus on enhancing skills, parenting practices, and behaviors to promote optimal personal, child, and family development. Programming provides resources to support parents/families in their role as caregivers and supporters of caregivers.

The following listing is sample of virtual or in person 30-60 minute workshops available to be facilitated by licensed and experienced practitioners in their respective fields.  

​

The topic and time frame for each workshops is flexible in order to best address the current and future needs of each community.

Workshops with customized topics are available after discussion about your unique needs.

Becoming Your Child’s Best and Most Effective Advocate

          This workshop will cover the following topics: checking in with/meeting your child’s teacher;
          how and when to communicate with school faculty and staff (teachers, social workers, speech       

          therapist, counselors, assistant principal, principal, and other support staff); addressing issues

          regarding students who struggle (academics & SEL); parent-portal (accessing grades before

          conferences); strategies for effective parent-teacher conferences.

 

When Behavior Gets in the Way: Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports

This session will explore tangible strategies and interventions for parents struggling with their child’s behavior both at home and in the classroom.

Preparing your student to CRUSH that high stakes test

Learn about  assessments, testing, and the road map to preparing your child for standardized testing.
 

Consistent behavior & academics
Rest is surprisingly important for children
Use the resources around you (library, etc)
Study and  do the work day by day

Maximizing Parent Teacher Conferences

Prior to 2020, Parent-teacher conferences used to be a routine part of the school year. But now, with an average five-month learning loss, and studies showing a majority of parents reporting increased stress and anxiety from their children being in virtual instruction, we can't go back to business as usual. Parent-teacher conferences offer a unique opportunity for more meaningful conversations. Please join a veteran teacher,  as he offers tools and insight on how to have richer parent-teacher conferences that go beyond student behavior, and instead help parents truly advocate for their children.

Summer Engagement and Enrichment Opportunities 

This workshop is intended to help parents and community stakeholders understand the significance of engaging youth during the summer, brainstorm potential ideas, and plan meaningful activities during out of school time.  The idea is to keep young people continually growing and fostering a community of lifelong learners.

 

Understanding High-Stakes Tests and what these test scores mean for your child’s future

Deep dive into NWEA scores and fun strategies you can use to keep your child busy, engaged, and learning through the holiday break.

The Fundamentals of Financial Literacy

This workshop will cover fundamental elements of financial literacy including net worth, budgeting, credit card usage, retirement planning, understanding your credit report, and some potentially wealth building ways to reinvest your tax refund.

Being of Service: Using Volunteerism as a Springboard to Fulfilling Your Purpose and Goals

Explore volunteer opportunities within the classroom and school; learn how to plan a service event for the school or community; and begin teaching your child the importance of giving back to the community (for self-fulfillment and resume building).
